Just at home working on a report.  The best bit about working at home is cranking up the stezza and getting carried away.

Today’s playlist highlights:

Juliana Hatfied & Frank Smith - Sittin’ in a tree (new EP from Jules, with countryish band Frank Smith… some top stuff on there)
Dear Leader - Alarmist (listen to Nightmare Alleys if you’re up for some aggressive antheming; doesn’t get any better than this)
Yo La Tengo - And then nothing turned itself inside out (ho yeah.  It’s like being in a quiet cul-de-sac at 4am, with nothing to do but delight in just *being*)
Blake Babies - Sunburn (Train is the most perfect piece of early 90s Guitar Pop song that ever there was)
Placebo - Without you I’m nothing (I know, I know, but there’s genius amongst all the teenage angst:  see Pure Morning and the title track.  I love this album but it always makes me gloomy.  Not because of the lyrics, I think there must be some serious minor chordery in there or something like that, it’s almost subliminal but it *does* happen)

Other cultural observations:

Russia’s drink problem: people making weird cocktails that harm them. (from everyday objects, not from booze itself)

A very funny book that describes how to make these cocktails: (aka Moscow Stations, with a much better cover)

Fulham?  Now the news feeds are saying that we offered Collins John and Volz and money for Jason Koumas.   Come on.   No way, no how.

And we’re in for Walter Pandiani, which I don’t particularly care for.  It’s a typical Birmingham rent-a-striker move.  I don’t want Fulham to turn into Birmingham.   We want good players who will be here for 2-3 years at least.  If Pandiani is only to be McBride cover then don’t spend that money.   Sure he’s a good player, but… well, not really a signing to excite I don’t think.  We’ll see.
