A Danny Murphy piece from the club’s website seems to have been reported in every news-starved media outlet.
“I’m sure the Club need to be convinced by me, on and off the pitch, especially because I hadn’t really played that much in the 12 months before I came here. They probably wanted to have a look at me and see where I was at physically. Hopefully I’ve shown that I’m capable and as I said that’s something we’ll have to look at further down the line.
This is a fair, I think. Nobody really knew which Danny Murphy we’d get. Would it be the cultured midfielder, handy from free-kicks, tidy passer, decent tackler? Or whatever he’d become at Spurs? At the risk of sounding like someone who lives on a fence, it’s probably too early to tell.
But the signs are encouraging. He rescued a point against Man City with a well-taken goal, and played quite well at Anfield on Saturday. Against that he has looked a little slow of foot in other games. My hope is that he’s still a bit rusty, and that in time talent will win out. At which point we’ll have a good player on our hands. Presumably an impact along the lines of Simon Davies’ is likely. Which is to say that we’ll get decent performances more often than not, a few goals, and a few assists. That’ll do.
Further to yesterday’s gossip, Colin chips in:
“No disrespect to Fulham but I think we’ve got more chance of signing David Beckham,”
Which means nothing I guess. Beckham in Croydon though? Ouch. Apologies (no, sympathies) to any Croydon readers.
