That’s the one! Brilliant news, can’t wait to see if he’s up to the job.

Another American! Take a look at this: http://goal.blogs.nytimes.com/

Ya, I saw references to that yesterday Andrew. I’m just not sure what to think of it. He would certainly be a better future player than Keller as he is one of the up and comers for the U.S. and could arguably be #2 or 3 in the U.S. National team starting keepers.

But he also makes a mistake here or there (mental) and is still developing. I just don’t see it but stranger things have happened. Does anyone know if Keller’s contract takes him to the end of the season? I take it this was not a deal until January.

If Fulham think Guzan’s a keeper for the future, which he very well could be, then perhaps now is the time to grab him. He will go to Europe eventually. I have no doubts.

Oh, according to my buddy Bruce at duNord, Guzan is also rumored to be heading to Germany.

“On another hand I heard the name Brad Guzan and the team Bayern Munich linked as well.”

I must admit, this is the first I’ve heard about Fulham having some interest in Brad. I did hear the Germany rumor and a rumor that he may be heading to Holland. I believe Brad will be starting the USA vs Sweden friendly tomorrow night.

Anyone know how many caps he had with the nats last year? I could be wrong, but if EJ was having issues obtaining a work permit, I would think it would be even harder for Guzan to get one, but I could be wrong.

Jason, Guzan only has 4 caps. It’s hard to get any in that position with Howard cementing his hold on it.

I agree that Guzan is good for the future. Keller and Niemi are approaching their sell-by date, and Batista is still young.

Like the sound of Mr Andreason, fingers crossed.

would anyone care to do some digging on Andreason? I’d be more interested in what he can bring than in what our young goalkeeper friend might or might not do. Relegation must be avoided…

Agreed Rich. He seems to score quite a bit for a defensive midfielder/defender: scored four goals in his first seven games for Mainz last year!

    Text:
Reports today suggest that Fulham have been looking at versatile Danish defender/midfielder Leon Andreasen currently under contract with German side Werder Bremen. The midfielder hasn’t had much of a look in this season at the Weserstadion despite being a full Danish international and has made as many starts for his country this season as for his club.

Andreasen is a versatile performer who can play either at the back or in the middle and can even help out up front. Andreasen, 24, has 8 caps for the Denmark at full international level and first come to wider European attention in the summer of 2006 when he caught the eye for the U21 Danish side in the European Championships in Portugal. At that moment he was still playing at the Werder youth team and helped set up a number of goals for current Arsenal striker Niclas Bendtner at U21 level.

Graduating to Werder’s full team in 2006/07 Andreasen has played sporadically under Thomas Schaaf but never quite forced his way into first team reckoning often being selected to help out in the absence of others. This season he has made only 4 starts, 3 in the league, with another 10 coming from the bench.

In the summer Hannover 96 showed an interest in the player but didn’t materialise into a concrete move. Last year Mainz had the player on loan as they looked to avoid the drop but despite Andreasen’s 4 goals in just 15 games they still found themselves slithering into the 2. Bundesliga.

New Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has been given extra funds by Mohamed Al-Fayed to spend on players as the former Blackburn Rovers and Inter Milan manager has been given the task of dragging the team away from the relegation zone. Werder are thought to have slapped a 4 million Euro price tag on the player, which is roughly £2.5 million and for a player with Andreasen’s versatility this represents excellent value.

Werder currently 2nd in the Bundesliga face the prospect, if Andreasen leaves, of major changes in the midfield. Tim Borowski has already accepted a contract to join Bayern Munich in the summer, whilst expensively acquired Brazilian Carlos Alberto is back in Brazil after only 6 months accepting a contract to play for Sao Paulo.

Michael Bradley, Heerenveen’s American midfielder, may be a likely target for the club, after he turned down a new contract at the club and looks set to leave Holland in the near future. Bradley had already been heavily linked with a move to Werder’s local rivals HSV Hamburg.

Andreason is a backup at Bremen right now, though he was a beast for me in Football Manger 06 :) Guzan is heading to Celtic for a trial right now I read in, I believe, Goff’s blog. He’s heading to all the UK clubs for a look, so his agent must be pretty sure he can secure a move.
