Fulham 2-2 Derby

Posted in Match info by bqfootball on March 29, 2008

For the second time this year we draw against Derby County, the worst team in the league. Really, is it any surprise we’re in second to last place then, just a position above Derby? Perhaps we hold ourselves in higher esteem that we should. But no matter, for whatever reason, we just seem unable to make it happen.

I was not able to catch the game and stayed free of news until just now. I DVR’d the game and just finished watching it. I’m sort of speechless really. I think I feel more resigned than disappointed.

Roy says there’s still a chance, but he says that every game and were narrowing our odds every game as well.

We did score two goals today. The first time in almost two months. Unlikely characters too, in Kamara and Bouazza. That’s something. I’m not sure what, but it’s something.

Bolton get beat in a 3 goal comeback by Arsenal, that’s something. Wigan get beat, that too is something. But Birmingham beat Man City, even a man down. What the ???? And Sunderland and Reading seem to be on a mini-run.

Oh well, as I said, I’m feeling resigned today and sort of at peace about the whole thing. All is well in Brian’s world no matter the result.

That second Derby goal had to be it. Seems Fulham was unlucky facing an improved Newcastle and Derby coming off a brave display last wkd. A point from the two won’t cut it though given the other results. A real shame.

The Sanchez approach (competition at every position) was really interesting but ultimately proved to be just numbers at the expense of quality. In all, the results in past two years are hard to ignore and it’s tough to argue against its justice. Just wish Hodgson had come in a month or two earlier.

6 points out with -13 goals to cover? i’ll still be, heart and soul, in every game… but expecting epl glory next year may be a little bit of a dream

I’ve just seen some of the highlights from the championship, some of the teams are really really good, it won;t be a walk in the park season (if we do go down) but if we can keep our big players (Davies, Bullard, Anreassen, Hangeland and Dempsey) we’ll have every chance.

Yesterday was the day my hope all but evaporated. We could still do it but I ‘m not holding my breath. WTF was that first Derby goal about??? We have been the victims of some cruel twists of fate over the last season- disallowed goals, poor ref decisions etc. and now the deflection from Hell.

Ultimately I lay our failure mostly at the door of Sanchez. I’m sure he did his best but he went for quantity rather than quality and we are going to pay the price. I now want it to be May so that this long death scene can draw to a close and I can stop thinking about football for a couple of months (apart from the Euros).

On the bright side- tickets should be cheaper next term, we will have the massively increased parachute payment, we will probably be able to hang on to the nucleus of the team and, whisper it, we might even win away.

FB, I agree, I think Sanchez caused this mess. If we’d been a bit higher up in the table, I’ve no doubt Roy could have kept us up. As it is, I can’t see any way that we won’t be in the Championship next aside from an honest-to-goodness miracle, which, given our bad luck this season, is very unlikely to happen.
