Do you remember The Big Match Live?

That was when football was a bit more innocent.  For some reason I remember Liverpool beating Watford 3-2 in about 1985, and Paul Walsh scored a couple.   Anyway, the genuinely excellent twohundredpercent has an archive of all the old football theme tunes.   I’m downloading it now, and am very excited.

  1. This may or may not be the right thing to say, but presumably you are aware that ITV4 is currently showing re-runs of “The Big Match” from Fulham’s abortive 1982/83 promotion season. The featured match on it a couple of weeks ago was Fulham vs Grimsby Town, and today it as Fulham vs Leicester City (which I think is repeated on Sunday morning - TV listings will confirm this one way or the other).

And thank you for your kind comments, by the way.

  2. Hi Ian

Yes, I saw that. What I didn’t know is that the games are repeated on Sunday mornings. Wow, what a discovery!

    cheers

  4. a related question: does BBC’s Match of the Day have the same “cool” theme music that it had in the ’70s? I still like to whistle it now and again.
