Odds and ends
Did you have a good bank holiday? All good here. Out in the sun for a few days, which was terrific. Let’s hope the weather stays with us until next Sunday, eh?
Here’s some news.
“It’s amazing how things turn round. He’s great with the players, he doesn’t take any crap, and doesn’t tell you crap. He just sees it as it is and I can see why Fulham got him here.
“He is spot on. He hasn’t missed a training session since he’s been here, which tells you everything.
“I said to him the other day, ’sod being a manager, Roy, with all these pressures’.
“But he said he loves it and enjoys it and that’s the kind of bloke he is. He wants us to play the ball on the floor and he is a football man.”
Franck on his part in the goals on Saturday. Interesting point about Hangeland grabbing his shirt:
“McBride was my player. I just got my shirt pulled by Brede Hengeland as the ball came in and it gave McBride a couple of yards and it was enough to give him a free header. I had just come on and I was watching McBride and I was following him but, in those two yards, I lost the ball and it gave him the two yards.
Harry Redknapp will field a full-strength team next Saturday:
“I will field a full strength side as I owe that to other people in a relegation battle.
“I wouldn’t do that - it is not fair, I wouldn’t want someone to do that to me so I won’t be doing that.
Hmm, I was hoping for a weakened Portsmouth side. But Harry is a pretty honest sort of manager and I will have to take his word that he will do what he says he’ll do. Overstating the obvious perhaps but Pompey are a very good side. Meaning will still have a good size hill to climb on Sunday.
Speaking of Harry, whenever I see him real serious I think about this bit I saw on youtube. You can’t blame him for his anger but it’s still pretty funny.

OK, hope you prove me wrong then and he throws the game. Nothing would make me happier! :)

Nothing’s been proved, of course, I just found that quite amusing.
I know what you mean though - honesty can mean several things - and he is a straight up sort of bloke in some ways. He’d want to do the right thing here, I’m sure. But as Martin said to me this morning, the players will mentally be half a second off perhaps, worried about getting injured, suspended, etc, in the cup final. Perhaps.

“the players will mentally be half a second off perhaps, worried about getting injured, suspended, etc, in the cup final.”
Absolutely. Hope that gives us a wee edge because they’re a damn good side. The rest of it will be up to you and the others who are going to the match to support our boys. The pressure is on Rich! How many inflatables are you bringing? They’ve been a hell of lot more effective than the magic slippers.

Oh, by the way, don’t know if you folks in the UK know it, or care for that matter, but the game is covered by Sentanta here in the States but is on tape delay. Ughhhh!
I’m planning on going to the pub to watch but I’m really bummed out that it’s delayed because there are some other good games on that morning that I would like to watch but I’m sure they will be giving the scores of the relegation teams. I’m torn if I want to black out and watch the game at noon CST or just give up and follow by internet and then go and watch the game afterwards. All the other games are on at 9 a.m. CST.
Damn I wish it were live.

Christ, what a dilemma. In your shoes I think I’d just go for Gentleman Jim on the radio. I don’t think I could stand the wait. Or see how much flights are and bomb over!
But yes, that would be terrible. Are you sure there’s nowhere showing it live? You never know.

I’m for Gentleman Jim. There’ll be several of us in our chatroom following the game via podcast or radio — the latter for me; I’m just glad I can spell podcast. The match will finish around 1045 local, so I’ll be off in my McBride jersey to church to celebrate.

you see a lot of “McGod” shirts about, Don. Presumably you won’t be taking one of those?!

HatterDon, last time I was in the chatroom, I think you blew out of there in disgust and frustration as Fulham went down hard to someone. Can’t remember who. Everyone was asking where you went?

Well my plan is this. I’m going to follow the Reading match via the Yahoo Eurosport match tracker deal. Whats nice is, they normally don’t give out “spoilers”. Then I can watch the Fulham match at noon knowing if they will need a win, simply a draw or if they can clinch even with a loss. Not that I think Derby will win mind you, but if they do, I can watch the Fulham match with a lot less pressure on my stomach!

Of course I’m assuming Birmingham City will lose this week. They could still end up hurting us in the end though, so I’ll probably keep one eye on that “match tracker” as well.

bq; if you’re talking about the Man City match, I left for a music gig. We were in the middle of Fiesta and this was our second lunch-time gig that week. So, no; I was like seriously delighted when I got back, but I never leave in disgust.
wmc: no, I have just McBride #20 on the back. McGod sounds like a chain of fast-food chapels.
jason: I admire your restraint if you can do matchtracker on our rivals and not be tempted to check on our score. It’s definitely going to be an Alka-Selzer Sunday morning.
Going to be

Hey - how can I listen to the game in the states? What is Gentleman Jim?

Gentleman Jim is FFC’s in-house announcer. To hear him Sunday morning [afternoon], click on this:
http://www.fulhamfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/FulhamTV/0,,10415,00.html
then click on “live commentary” [on the left side]. There’s either a per-game fee or a season fee. Seems a little silly to get the season fee, but go for the game fee.
You can also get sopcast in some foreign language squished into your computer, but I prefer to put the money into FFC’s hands where I can. Besides, I was “raised on radio” and I rather like the commentary idea.
The over/under on “Oh Dearie Me” and “How did that NOT go in” iterations is 5 for each.
Enjoy.

Gentleman Jim does the Fulham commentary. You can listen through the Fulham site if you pay a small premium (probably not worth it for one game). Also there’s a free version somewhere, but I’ve lost the link.
