Audio interview with Clint Dempsey

with 4 comments

Clint Dempsey talks to U.S. Soccer about his experience at Fulham and the current relegation fight. He also explains his contract extension.

What the new manager has done is really help us work on our shape defensively. So I think we’re a hard team to break down. Then we’ve gotten some goals from our forwards, Kamara, Mc Bride and Nevland.

Any time you’re able to not concede goals and then score goals you always have a chance to win.

  2. I do think I defence has improved, but we have a long ways to go. Yes, we can hold tight against fellow relegation sides Birmingham and Reading. But City got 2 on us and you can be that even now, MUFC and their ilk would ring us up for a few. Hopefully we can sign a few other towering defenders like Hangeland over the summer.

  3. I hate to be nit-picky here, but something that Clint said rather bothered me. Particularly in light of the early post that links to the article about Simon Davies and him saying that last Saturday’s match was the biggest of his life and that this coming Sunday is a match that is bigger than any other he has ever played in. But Clint spoke of how important that match was and equated it to an MLS playoff game. What? You’ve got to be having a laugh. Then he says it’s not quite the same as a World Cup game, but it is big because not only do you go home, because it’s your last game, like an MLS playoff game. But you get relegated as well.

I dunno, like I said, maybe being nit-picky or anal but there seems to be a big difference in the way that Davies is looking at this and the way Dempsey is looking at the game. I think I’d be on the same plain as Davies.

  4. bq, I took what he meant as “unlike an early group game in the World Cup,” there is no next game to come back and get them. That was the equation with an MLS game not the relative impact of it. Our boy will be fully focused on the importance of this match on Sunday.

So, yeah; I think your getting a little nit-picky. :-)
