We’re Up, We’re Up, WE’RE FREAKING STAYING UP!
In a turn around of turn arounds, our boys in white, well actually red & black today, beat Portsmouth away. Incredible is an understatement as Fulham wins on the road again. 3 away wins after going almost two years without an away win. As well, the win made it 4 victories out of their last 5 games. They say wining is contagious and in a post game interview, the lone goal scorer Danny Murphy, as well as teammate Jimmy Bullard said as much. Confidence breads confidence and Roy Hodgson has instilled a believe in our side that we’ve not seen in some time.
Astonishing events really. Portsmouth had a chance in the dying minutes that saw the turn and shot go well over the bar as everyone in the pub gasped and then collectively sighed. Then there was the 3 min. of stoppage time. I had been on my feet since about the 70th minute and though my legs felt wobbly, this was no time to sit down.
Finally, Mark Clatterburg’s whistle, and Fulham have saved their premiership hides and will be around again for another year in 08/09. Which will make it the Cottagers’ 8th consecutive season in the Premiership.
I was able to watch the game live at “The Local” pub in Minneapolis and were joined by about 15 others. The small room exploded when Murphy nodded in at 75th minute. There were also numerous Toby sightings, particularly during the post match celebration. How can you miss someone with a Mexican hat and a large blue inflatable. Toby, you looked great on television world wide.
So leave your thoughts.
Rich, Pretty sure I saw you as well. What jersey were you wearing?
Wow. i just got back from England after studying there since January. I went to the Aston Villa game at the Cottage, so i saw the beginning of the come back. Where in Minneapolis can i go to watch Fulham games next year? I live in St. paul…
Phenomenal. I think the 20 or so minutes after the goal was scored were the longest period in my life. I tried to go to Nevada Smiths in NYC, but there was a line out the door at 10am. So, I was actually able to stream the match online with solid quality. I can’t believe we’re staying up. To be honest, after we lost to Sunderland and tied Derby I thought it was all over for sure. COYW!!!
As posted previously- DELIRIOUS;
Any thoughts on the fair play spot? City picked up a red and a yellow-
Great performance from all the players today!
Just a tremendous result, really can’t say much more than that. Things looked so bleak for such a long time, but we were able to get things right and we’re a totally different side than we were just a couple of months ago.
The prospect of the Championship really scared me. It’s such a tough league, especially this year where only 18 pts separated relegation and the last play-off spot.
It’s a great day for us.
One last thing.
An image that really stuck with me throughout this great run was after the win at Man City, there was a shot of a young woman in a Fulham kit with her arms raised in total elation. Behind her, you can see a young boy who is quickly putting his Fulham kit back on which I suspect he took off when the team was down 2-0.
I always laugh when they show that clip.
Did you see the photo of the women last week at the Birmingham game, (Birmingham fan), that had her scarf around her neck holding it up like a nose. Yikes! I guess she was right.
I gave some fans some crap after the Liverpool match when it seemed many gave up hope. Today I’m glad I didn’t.
When Murphy scored, I scared the crap out of my wife, who was sitting on the computer. My voice is shot.
Man those final 15 minutes or so dragged on!
We’re staying up!
I am happy for Fulham fc , I was never expecting it to happen but it did , I pray this team stays together…with some reinforcement the future is bright…

Fantastic Run!!! I thought we were done after the Sunderland game.
I have a total mancrush on McBride and Bullard now.
I badmouthed Danny Murphy all year, and he goes and gets arguably the two most important goals of the year. Part of me wants to curse him for proving me wrong, instead I’ll drink a beer in his honor.
COYW!!!!
Brian, probably picking my nose! I had all kinds of blockages up there today and was fearful of getting myself on tv in a bad way like that! He he. I was in the away kit but sitting a bit of a way from T and M and the inflatables. Who knows? Amazing day though.
Nice for you lot in the States too, eh? You’ll still be able to watch Fulham every week.
I still have nothing constructive to say. Silly, silly game.
Absolutely fantastic! I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed such a comeback in all of sport. Like most of us, I’d given up on the lads but we’re a new team now. I hope that Roy stays in charge and we bring in a few good signings over the summer. If we can keep this positivity up, we could do quite well next season!
And yes, thank goodness I’ll be able to watch them next season!
If you saw Toby, you probably saw me as well. I was one row in front of him and about three along. Sad git in a floppy khaki hat (to keep the sun off). Nobody told me I needed a comedy moustache!
Kemosabe, not sure if you saw but Rich posted a comment about you here.

Unfortunately I don’t have Setanta so I can’t go back to the DVR and take a look for you, and Rich. I know I saw Toby and Matthew. I’m sure if I had it on DVR I could go back and see everyone else including you. Hey, if anyone can do a screen capture of the moment send it to Rich and we could get it up online. It would be a lot of fun to be able to see the gang.
A glorious day, is it not?
Let me be the last to saw congratulations to all. As doth the day follow the night, so doth Monday beget the endless FUSA transfer thread.
My two favorite bits from today’s match:
1. The video of Brian’s sack of Danny Murphy after the goal. I knew the lad was a great baseball player in his youth. Had no idea he played cornerback in pointy football also.
2. Gentleman Jim’s shameless emotional last five minutes and, what I had to miss as I was off to church, his post match rambling. I love that crazy geezer.
What a wonderful day for the Black and White.
Slept in my Fulham shirt last night. My girlfriend said she saw my kiss the crest in my sleep.
I was quite certain we couldn’t do it and I’ve never been so happy to be so wrong. We’ve got a winning coach and the beginning of a winning team (yes, despite coming in 17th). Hopefully Mo will be scared straight by this encounter with relegation. Let’s cut the fat and build this team so we never have to be in this position again!!
Fantastic! I was sat in the South Stand, right on the centre circle, I could see Mo from my seat. I still wore my Fulham shirt.. Got a few jeers, but the Pompey fans were generally good, wishing me luck. When we scored I just couldn’t hold myself back and jumped up and yelled. Total silence around me. Oh well, if they didn’t know I was there before, they did now! Few people told me to sit down and shut up, I did as I was told as I didn’t want to cause any trouble. At the final whistle, some of the fans congratulated me, which was nice. We were so loud, I’ve been to Fratton a few times and never experienced away support like that! I just wished I was in the away stand to enjoy the banter at the final whistle, oh well, at least I got to see the game live! What a fantastic day! Topped off with a curry when I got home! COYW! I hope Hodgson gets the backing and the money to bring in some new players, he has so many contacts! I’m so hopeful for next season! Oh yeah… any news on that Uefa Cup spot?
What a wonderful way to finish an awful season. I do not anyone involved with FFC can risk their health by having to endure another season like 2007-8.
Well done to RH and the boys!
