Transfer rumours for Sunday

Filed under: General — weltmeisterclaude @ 9:47 am

Transfer rumours. Do transfer rumours mean anything now? Roy operates without leaks. Much of this might just be made up. Nevertheless:

Mail on Sunday: Benitez to shift Steve Finnan… hmmmm

PSG’s Bernard Mendy (a right back) to join Fulham. DETECTIVE WORK:

Mendy: mon dernier match (Mendy: my last match)

Vous verra-t-on l’année prochaine au PSG ?
Je ne sais pas. Pour l’instant, non.

(I’m thinking: are you coming back to PSG? I don’t know. At the moment, no)

So there we are. No mention of Fulham anywhere though. And I think this is from a post-match interview.  Also, this info’s not on l’Equipe or on France Football, the two big ‘entities’ out there.  Still, who knows?

And the People says we’re going to bid for Louis Saha (£4m)

Well. I’d be very excited by Saha. The injury concern is a very real one, but he can still score goals and is one of the more exciting players in the league. Might be able to help Eddie Johnson. Might find that being ‘the man’ helps him. I dunno. Probably there is better value for money out there though.

Finnan seems unlikely to me.

  1. Although there was a couple of stories from the papers about Schwarzer that appeared on TiFF a day or two before the official announcement. It’s probably impossible to keep things *completely* on the quiet. Let’s believe that anyway, otherwise it doesn’t leave much to talk about in the close season!

I love Louis Saha and would be very excited if he came back. Not sure Roy’s the type to risk money on such a (sadly) injury prone player, though.

Finnan too? Rumours about Seany Davis? Let’s get Boa back as well, Barry Hayles, Rufus Brevett, Andy Melville… and recreate the Tigana team of 2000/1!

  2. Could you put together a decent starting XI of guys who still play, who used to be Fulham players (includes loan players)?

    ———–Montella—–Saha———
    Steed—Sean Davis—Diop—Routledge
    Bridge–Knight—-Ouaddou?——Finnan

Bench: Hanneman, M. Brown, E. Lewis, Rosenior, Quedrue

  3. I’ll take Cisse myself. I wonder if Roy is snapping up Bosmans as squad players, with the intent of using his transfer budget to grab a few bigger names?

  4. Me too. I find it incredible that people on TiFF are suggesting that Cisse’s not what we need. The man’s an absolute beast of a player, fast strong, and a goalscorer. I was in France earlier in the year and he scored an amazing hat-trick for Marseille – I was hugely impressed. I’d always liked what he did at Liverpool too. He got that nasty injury, and spent a lot of time on the wing, but he showed a lot of talent.

Presumably out of our league, but with Roy you just never know.

  5. well, it seems for the 4th consecutive transfer period on the trot, we’re being linked with every right back on the planet.

I, for one, would like to see somebody who is at home on the left wing, who has pace, and who can cross a ball. Two healthy shoulders wouldn’t hurt. Thank goodness we didn’t waste 700,001 quid on that guy Beasley last summer.

Hate to be grumpy, but we haven’t really replaced Boa. I’m sure that Roy has noticed that Dempsey, Davies, and others he’s played on the left prefer the right side of the park. We’ll see what the boss comes back from EURO2008 with.

  6. I am very reluctant to trust the People. I remember allowing myself to get excited about the prospect of Teddy Sherringham coming to us after reading it as a back page splash (it was prior to him celebrating his 100th year as a professional footballer) and was then crushed when he joined Pompey, I think.
