Lawrie: it’s not all about you

Posted in General by weltmeisterclaude on June 19, 2008

Further to the Lafferty to Rangers deal, Lawrie chimes in:

“It would be nice if he could link up with Steven Davis, another young lad I blooded at international level, who I understand did a fantastic job on loan at Ibrox last season.”

You silly man!  Just for once let it go.  I’m beginning to think that Sanchez is very, very insecure.  What he probably sees as important self-publicity is really coming across as something quite tiresome.

He also says that he tried to buy Lafferty:

“I tried to sign him when I was at Fulham but was quoted £6m and the finances got out of hand,”

Six million?  You do wonder if we got a bit of a reputation during the last summer.

“Hello, QPR sales”
“Yes, this is Lawrie Sanchez from Fulham.  I’d like to buy a left winger from you please.  He has to be short, and preferably Northern Irish”
“Please hold, Mr Sanchez, I’ll check stocks”
- puts Lawrie on hold -
“Steve!  How many left wingers have we got in the warehouse?”
“We’ve got a Lee Cook somewhere?”
“What’s the retail on a Lee Cook?”
“I can’t find it, but maybe a million pounds?”
“It’s Fulham though?”
“Oh, right, well, two million?”
“Sounds good”
- takes Lawrie off hold -
“Mr Sanchez?”
“Hello”
“We have one Lee Cook left.  He’s not Northern Irish, but otherwise we think he’ll suit your needs”
“Excellent.  I’ll give you £2.5 million for it”
“Wouldn’t you like to see it first?”
“Are you questioning my judgement?  No, I’ll take it.  When will it arrive?”
“We’ll deliver it next week”
“Thanks. It’s been a pleasure negotiating with you”

and so on.

Sorry, carried away.  Here’s news that Ipswich are in for Carlos Bocanegra.   Nice.  I’d like that, good club, and he can get into London quite quickly too.

Also, we’re linked with Croatia’s Simunic.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion of course but my only response to yours, genuinely, is that you must be joking.

    You are, aren’t you?

If not have you encountered any other Fulham supporters who agree with you?

If you have I can only think you must be at least 6ft 8in, 20 stone and very menacing.

I’ve just responded to something that’s vanished. Or something I imagined.

yes, sorry, Tony, I assumed it to be a wind-up so binned it. Even if it wasn’t, I can’t be arsed to go through all that again. But the poster’s name was “rob da joka” or something like that which suggests it’s someone being silly.

Interesting, someone to look out for in the quarter’s. I’ve been enjoying Euro 08 but it’s very hard not to spend your time thinking “could he play for Fulham?”, “can we afford him?” and “is he currently playing for Real Madrid and totally out of our price bracket”. Inevitably Roy will probably pick up players I didn’t notice at all or more likely completely avoid the Euro 08 squads altogether.

Oh – thanks to the wonders of Wikipedia – just found out this is the player Graham Poll gave three yellow cards to at the last World Cup.

Sorry to monopolise the thread. Final points. Totally agree with you about Sanchez. Wasn’t that upset with him when he was fired, but his actions ever since have reduced any respect I had for him to zero.

Still think Boca could do better than Ipswich. Not meaning to be nasty to the East Anglian’s who I think play some nice football, but I really thought he’d find his way to a decent European side. I’m a bit surprised, seeing as it looks like he didn’t have another option lined up, Roy didn’t feel he was worth keeping.

Shame about Sanchez as I thought he tried but failed and just felt sorry for him. Now he seems to spend his entire time trying to show how right he was and how wrong everybody else was. I must admit I am now sick to death of him.

However the secret converstion between him and QPR should not have been released as it just makes him look silly. No more than Bouazza and his signing admitedly.

‘Sanchez here, we have a broken left sided winger have you a new one?’
‘ Watford have a nearly new one. Only missing an arm’
‘ Well he doesn’t kick with his arm we will take two’

I don’t think Cook was all that bad of a signing (Cook that is). He hadn’t had many injury problems before we bought him. He has ability (according to QPR fans) Give him another season!! Show us what he’s got.

Bouazza again wasn’t all that bad of a signing, he started the season very well

I agree with Chopper that Boca can do better than Ipswich. An international who can play center and left back and comes on a free should be pretty attractive on the open market. Would love to see him at PSV, but I guess we’ll see.

I like Simunic although he does play on the edge and has a tendency to boil over at times. He’s very dissimilar to Hughes in that regard. Physically, Simunic can handle the Prem and I think that he would be a good add.

How about Steve Kean turning down Chelsea to stay at Coventry City? What are the odds that Big Phil takes a swing at one of Roman’s backroom cronies? That says something about the situation at Chelsea if a coach would rather stay at Coventry than move to a high-level London squad.

What about Sanchez’s conversation with West Brom for Kamara…

Sanchez tells himself: “Its all about haggling for a good price, I think I can do that!”

Sanchez calls West Brom: “Hello, is that West Bromwich Albion? I hear you have an effective senegalease striker who has scored lots of goals for you, is he for sale?”

“Well, we were hoping to hold onto him, but if you give us a good price we may reconsider…”

“Oh good! How about £2.0 million? After all you did pay £1.5m for him…”

“Hmmm.. we were hoping for around the £3.0m mark…”

“I tell you what, I’ll give you £4.0m!”

“That would be just super, shall we arrange…”

“Don’t think you can play games with me… I’ll give you £5.0m!”

“What games? I just said we were happy with £4.0m…”

“You are good aren’t you? I tell you what, I’ll give you £6.0m!!”

    “OK!!!!!!!”

Sanchez hangs up the phone and tells himself: “I knew I could do it! What a great piece of business, Mo will be so happy with me!”

    :)
