Kamara out for six months

Filed under: General — weltmeisterclaude @ 8:46 am

Oh dear.

He built up some impressive momentum at the end of last year, and finally seemed to be playing at the level we’d hoped of him. It seemed reasonable to expect him to push on this season, to cement his place, to be a dangerous weapon on the counter-attack. Not now.

It’s good news for Eddie Johnson, who is now our only pace up front.

If he wasn’t before, Roy will certainly be forward shopping now.

UPDATE: Confirmation from the club

There was some disappointing news from Motspur Park on Tuesday regarding Joe Kamara. The striker ruptured a cruciate during Senegal’s recent match against Liberia and will undergo reconstructive surgery on his knee this Friday. The Club estimates that Diomansy will be out of action for six months.

Photos of training.   David Healy’s t-shirt looks too big, and Steve Davis is talking to ex-midfield mate Alexey Smertin.

  1. Damn, damn, damn! (As Professor Higgins says isn “My Fair Lady”.)

What`s the betting he`ll be fit just in time to play in the Africa Cup next January, though?

  3. Losing both Brian and Joe is a hefty blow. Some forwards need to arrive pronto…

  4. Wing Half – There is no African Nations in January, its every 2 years but i get what you’re saying. Bad news for Kammy though, i wish him well

  5. Masry – I’m just reading Jonathan Wilson’s History of Football tactics. You’ll be delighted to know that there’s a couple of diagrams about the recent Egypt team. Great book, incidentally.

  6. if they’re planning on relying on the same group of forwards as last year minus mcbride we’ll be in a relegation fight again this year. hopefully this forces a hand, because kamara wasn’t the answer anyway.

  7. This sucks. I don’t think EJ has what it takes to step in a be a regular contributor. We’re in trouble unless we sign a few forwards. I have faith in Roy, though.

  8. There has to be a new signing now (as I’m sure Roy has thought all along). Two from Johnson, Nevland and Healy is not a combination we should be relying on to take us to the next level.

  9. Collins John and Eddie Johnson to take us to the next level?

    No maybe not.

  10. Middlesbrough (!) spent 12.7 pounds on a forward (Alves) last winter. I refuse to think through the implications.

  11. what’s worse is that knee surgery like this can often change a player… take a step from his pace, put some fear in him, etc.

problem is, with kamara, pace is arguably his strongest asset. here’s hoping he can return to full form.

Rich, sounds interesting. I went to Amazon to order and I see the book is not actually released yet. How did you get a copy? :o

  14. It’s very interesting, a history of football on the pitch, if you will. Got mine from the book depository, which is a seller on Amazon.
