I felt that Bouazza was a player who could’ve moved up a level this season. He didn’t get a lot of credit for what he did last year, partly because he wasn’t always any good, but there were some fine moments. Against Man City at home he marauded very nicely, and scored that belter of a goal. He had other good moments too, but ultimately that’s what it came down to: moments.
I’d be a rubbish scout because I’d see moments and conclude that the player responsible for said moments is a good player. Not necessarily so: it’s all well and good hitting 400mph free kicks into the top corner, but you have to do it more than once a season, and not belt the ball over the stand with most of your other shots. It’s all well and good starting and ending the move in which Simon Davies scores a fine header, but again, these things must be regular, not occasional outbursts. That’s the problem. Yes, he’s a left winger, the most inconsistent players going, and yes he’s quite young, but this is the Premiership and there’s no time to learn on the job.
So maybe Hameur needs a little refinement somewhere else. I always thought he was quite a fun player to have around, but fun players to have around don’t make points, so I can see why Roy might be focusing on people who can make better and more regularly tangible contributions towards winning football matches.
And isn’t it about time one of our ’surplus squad’ got linked with another club?
Meanwhile, Juventus players (in their new kit) look like they’re remaking “I Know What You Did Last Summer”:
There’s plenty of fun at Football Shirt Culture, as usual. Hull players, in particular, look like they’ve been told to look “menacing” for their shoot. Palermo’s world of pink may now have gone “too far”, perhaps because of the collar.
