West Ham were rumoured to be in for Andy Johnson, remember? Well, according to a TiFF poster, Johnson’s agent has decided to use this to drive a hard bargain.
But of course, if West Ham will pay silly money – and past form shows that they will – then we have to as well.
Or we go to plan B. Which is apparantly where the Mario Gomez stuff comes from. Which, given the timing, would appear to be the club feeding stories to the papers to remind Johnson’s agent that there are other forwards out there.

I wonder if there’s a “real” big signing somewhere else that woy is keeping completely close to his chest. AJ deal looks increasingly unlikely – ?was it the medical. Gomez deal would face stiff competition- I bet he’s got a plan C.
Also, good news JB in contract extension talks.

I really thought AJ was a done deal, I don’t like the fact it’s being dragged on like this. It gives the impression that it’s fallen through, Medical on Monday and still not signed?! I definately agree that the Gomez situation is a back up if the AJ deal falls through, I can’t see RH signing both.

So um…any chance that this still happens? I’m leaning toward no. I do feel a little bad for AJ in all of this (assuming the deal is off), as it seems like he was genuinely excited to come and play for us. Unless, of course, it turns out that West Ham jumped in with more money.
Plan B…Gomez? He did play in that friendly last night, but he was also subbed off around 60 minutes. I caught a little bit of the game, he didn’t do a whole lot, but still managed to look dangerous. His normal strike partner Cacau (also a very good player) wasn’t playing, so Arsenal’s defence was focused much more on Gomez. It’s hard to see a player like that leaving Stuttgart for Fulham, but a chance to play in England, even as a stepping stone to bigger things, might be attractive to both parties. There’s a good chance we would make our money back and then some.
