Johnson deal in next 24 hours…

Press Association feed on Johnson.

Everton expect the transfer of striker Andrew Johnson to Fulham to be completed in the next 24 hours.

Owner and chairman Bill Kenwright held talks on Monday night in London with Craven Cottage officials to thrash out a deal.

The original move had stalled over the weekend because Fulham were concerned about signs of an old ankle injury that showed up on a scan last week.

Fulham were believed to have wanted to renegotiate the initial payment for the England forward.

It is believed, though, that the up-front payment was initially still less than half of a fee which could rise to around £13million.

Some minor adjustments over instalments have been negotiated, but from Everton’s point of view the final fee could still reach that maximum figure dependent on appearances.

Kenwright also held talks with Everton officials in London last night in the wake of speculation that the theatre impresario wanted to put the club up for sale.

But Everton have played down that situation, insisting Kenwright’s position is unchanged.

An Everton spokesman said: “As far as Bill is concerned, the club has been for sale for the last five years, this is nothing new.

“Bill has always said that he would sell the club if the right people with the right finance came along.”

£5.5 million to start off… not bad at all.

“Fulham will pay an initial fee of £5.5m for the England forward, rising to £13m based only on appearances. The bulk of the pending £7.5m will become due sooner rather than later, however.”

Good deal, with the structure in case he gets injured (really a good way of managing cash flow) – I hope and think he will be good for us.

Cool. If he plays enough to make these increased fees kick in, he’s probably worth it.

just a thought/question; Capello seems to NOT have settled on any “regulars” in the squad. Let’s suppose that AJ gets off to a roaring start. When was the last time a Fulham attacker wore a full England shirt? Was Haynes the last? In 1966 was it?

Johnny Haynes 1962. Since then just George Cohen and Zat Knight.

The only other FFC post war international forward, I think, would have been Bedford Jezzard.

Other post war England internationals that I can think of are Jim Langley and Jim Taylor. No others come to mind.

Esoteric old-timers’ point here…….Allan Clarke got picked and actually named in the programme (which in those days only listed the starting 11) for a full international at Wembley. But got injured shortly beforehand and didn’t actually get to start for England till he’d left us. So, yes, Johnny Haynes. As for England internationals in general, I suspect Tony’s list is complete……..Mullery and Robson began and ended at Fulham but only played for England in between. Marsh and Macdonald only did so having been cast aside by us as 20-somethings.
