Song possibilities?
Anyway. He had a stormer yesterday, missing one good chance but doing everything else just about perfectly. That chance though… was it as easy as it looked?
You can see the highlights here, but here’s a grab run of my own making:
Zamora is running left to right. The ball is going left to right. For Zamora to head the ball back towards goal he has to head on the right hand side:
Which is easier said than done when you’re running from the left and the ball’s progressing that way too. He’d almost have had to have got underneath it and head it back the opposite way he’d come from.
Yeah he should have scored, but when you look at the physics of it (physics?!), well maybe it’s understandable that he couldn’t redirect it. I suspect this is one of those rare chances that was a fair bit harder to put away than it looked. Think of it in terms of a snooker shot: to get it fine enough he’d never have got the power he needed; he really needed to be running at it from a better angle.
Anyway, just a thought.

Interesting, claude! But he could have just let the ball come down and volleyed it gently past the stranded keeper!

Ah, but in his mind surely he expected Gomes to be there about the same time, no? He probably thought he was in a race to the ball. Hence the header.

Yes the header was a difficult one, but I thought the same thing as delahug – surely he should have just chested it down and volleyed past a completely-out-of-position Gomes. Not as easy a chance as some have made out, but he still should have done better I think.
Zamora is playing fantastically, but finishing is the one part of his game that’s not functioning at the moment and he’s clearly way less confident in front of goal himself than when setting up others. Hence – some lovely, almost audacious, first-time touches into others’ paths during the past two games, but also (for example) attempting to pass to AJ at one point in the first half yesterday when really he should have just had a shot.

I thought Zamora was outstanding on Saturday, the perfect partner for Andy Johnson. Favourite moment was when we were trying to run down time and he did a funny little step over about three times in a row with the Spurs defender unable to respond.
