Heart Shaped Rocks

I meant to mention this the other day, but the local paper a couple of weeks ago mentioned that our manager is a huge Jackson Browne fan.  Is that news?  I don’t know.

It also mentions the JP Donleavy thing.   I mentioned – I think – that when I met Roy at the fans’ forum I got him to sign my copy of Schultz.  He said he was re-reading Donleavy.  I stood there, dumbstruck.

It’s worth noting that Donleavy has (had) a tremendous beard.

Anyway, it occurs to me for such an interesting man, we know little about Roy Hodgson.

Little to declare tonight.  I am tired and there is no news.  I am, however, going to Villa park on Saturday, which will be nice.  I like it there.

So I should read Donleavy? Had never even heard of him when you first mentioned it. Checked out his wikipedia entry and he sounds an interesting character. Got “The Ginger Man” on my list of books to consider next year.

  2. This is sacrilege, but what the hell – one thing that worries me about Roy -and even greater sacrilege, johnny Haynes – is that they both played in South Africa during apartheid and thus broke the sporting boycott that was rightly imposed on the regime. Ok that was a long time ago, but at the time it was very clear that this racist regime used sport (and Music – remember Sun City) as a front to show the world that everything was ok, and Roy and Johnny must have known this.

  3. Went through a phase of reading most of Donleavy’s books about 30 years ago, when I was living in Dublin. Loved them especially the Ginger Man. Some of the funniest situations, and probably ahead of its time humour wise.
