A young team – only Andranik of the senior players and he played the Murphy role to perfection.

It was like watching the first team – same method and style. Good possession and organisation with not quite enough going forward.

Leigier scored from a corner. We handled Chelsea well but they equalised with a very soft penalty.

Milsom got what could be a bad injury at the end.

The sound was very soft and the commentators hardly mentioned us but amongst those playing were Foderingham,Leigier, Briggs, Smallwood, Andranik, Brown, Milsom and Smith.

Brown and Smith both looked decent but Andranik stood out. We deserved to win.

Tony, do you think Leijier will ever make the first team. A fellow Austrlian on TIFF pointed out that he would probably be better off playing for Melbourne Victory in front of 20,000+ every week, than in Fulham reserves. If he’s never going to make the first team then I’d have to agree.

[...] Rich has a post up asking if people watched the reserve game against Chelsea last night. As it happens, I took advantage of a friend’s more expansive Sky selection and watched the game from the comfort of his living room rather than braving the cold and a journey – albeit brief – down to Griffin Park on a Monday night. Mike I couldn’t make a judgement based on what I saw last night. The defence looked strong and organised but how these guys would adapt to the Premiere League who knows.

I think the gap is too large and a year or two on loan to a lower League, then Championship side would be necessary.

I saw Darren Pratley play for Swansea at the weekend and I was impressed. He looks good whereas at Fulham he was anonymous in the very few first team games (mostly pre season friendlies) that he played.

He’s obviously been well coached and after 3 years or so in the lower leagues looks a very decent Championship player albeit one a bit lacking in pace. For all that I wouldn’t be anxious for us to resign him or expect him to become a good Premiere League player but maybe given the chance he’d do well. Jonathan Greening level perhaps but given where we now are that’s still not quite good enough.

I don’t think we can afford to play rookies in crucial positions.

Thanks Tony. I think we often lose sight of what a high standard the EPL is. You will hear supporters saying that so and so is sh**. But just to get on the subs bench, you have to be very highly talented. Then to hold down a place in the first team requires more talent again, plus attitude, persistence, luck and an injury tolerant body.

Isn’t Milsom out on loan at Southend United?

He was, but his deal ended at the start of the month. Hope he’s going to be ok, looked like a good player when I saw him in pre-season, both at LB and CM. Bad injuries at this stage of his career could see his chances of making it severely reduced.
