I would believe that is Mr Murphy you are talking about. He was always an unsung hero at Liverpool & Charlton… true signs of a top professional when you see just how consistent he has been over his career.

I wonder how many of those goals are penalties? I remember him taking them for Liverpool. Has he scored from open play for us apart from the famous Pompey goal?

If anyone’s interested, they’re going to show the reserves match vs. Arsenal on Weds here

JamieR – apart from the Pompey game, he scored in open play at home against Manchester City last season, a game which I think may have been his debut. Apart from these, I think that his only goals in open play have been in cup games – Leicester and Kettering. Of course, he was inches away from doing so again against WBA, but for that bloody crossbar!

Oh yeah, the Man City one – good finish that. I suppose his goal at Eastlands was strictly speaking from open play too, since he missed the pen scored from the rebound. Yes – Leicester, Kettering (although wasn’t that an own goal?) I’ve also just remembered another cup one at home to Bristol City last season.
Moral of the story seems to be… if we ever draw Man City in the cup, stick all your money on Danny.

Last summer, when we signed Gera and Etuhu, I thought that Danny might no longer be a first choice. Then Roy made him captain and the rest, as they say, is history. He’s been terrific and more fool me for doubting him.
If he had been born in Italy, Spain or any country where skill holds more of a premium over physicality he would probably have been held in higher regard. Charlton and Spurs didn’t seem to fully appreciate what he can offer.
Odd too that it was Sanchez who brought him to Fulham.
