Fire on the mountain

Filed under: General — weltmeisterclaude @ 7:46 pm

Well I can’t think of anything much to say, so here’s some music:

I have a 20 minute version of that somewhere.   Splendid.

Did you know you can download loads and loads of Grateful Dead shows, legally and free?   Well you can.  Marvellous.

People sometimes have these hypothetical time travel discussions.   Given the power to make a few journeys there’s absolutely no doubt that I’d spend one on visiting a Grateful Dead show.

Which begs the question:  what is the modern equivalent?

Anyway, have a nice weekend.

  1. Had no idea you were a dead head Rich. I saw the Dead (sans Jerry of course) in Philadelphia last month and they were awesome shows.

The Grateful Dead & FFC, a curious mix indeed.

  2. Most overrated band in rock and roll history, period. I will not argue this. Their fans who went on and on and on and on about how great they were live were a bunch of overindulged rich kids who had too much money and too little brains, possibly after smoking the required amount of pharmaceuticals to appreciate their music.

Rich, if you want to enjoy them, don’t let my haterade opinion stop you, but the thought of seeing a 80s era Dead show? Be careful what you wish for. What if you got it?

  3. The music isn’t at all similar, but the scene surrounding Phish is similar to the Dead back in the day…..and speaking of, Phish at Fenway Park tomorrow night! Phish is back on tour and Fulham are in Europe. Good times for football loving hippies everywhere!

  5. Might I suggest Bruce Springsteen? OK, his shows these days are only about 2.5 hours (down from the 3+ when I first saw him in – ooh – 1981, I think), but the quality is impressive. Springsteen will be 60 next birthday (yikes!) but acts like a man 20 years younger.

He built his reputation purely as a live act in the mid-70s (because he was legally forbidden to release new records) so played 200+ shows a year for several years, and he still has (largely) the same band who are – unsurprisingly – pretty tight. On this tour they’ve started playing requests – not just his own material, anything the audience can throw at them!

And I’m going to see him at Glastonbury at the end of June. Just. Cannot. Wait.
