Adios Salcido

From the offal:

The Club can confirm that Carlos Salcido has joined Tigres de la UANL on a permanent deal. The left back joined the Mexican club on loan at the start of 2011/12 season.

Salcido joined Fulham in August 2010 from Dutch Eredivisie side PSV and made 26 appearances for the Whites last season.

The Club would like to thank Carlos for his efforts during his time in SW6 and wishes him a successful future with Tigres de la UANL.

I wrote Salcido’s “obituary” for the club back in August so go visit that. It was no surprise that he left us considering the left-back position is firmly John Arnse Riise and John Arne Riise’s alone (JAR has only missed three league games at LB: one from injury, one from tactics, one from childbirth). Also, back to the age subject, Salcido turns 32 in about 4 weeks time.

Unless there’s some pre-season friendly I’m forgetting about, he never featured under Martin Jol.

On a personal and selfish level, I’m happy with the move. I can go back to rooting against him whenever the USA plays Mexico, rather than being in this awkward position of wanting his team to lose; but him to do well, improve, and not get injured. Hooray simplicity!

  1. Yeah, it’s a bit tricky having Mexicans on teams that I support. I thought for sure that Rafa Marquez was on his way out of town after the way last season ended, but no such luck yet.
